President

Blake A. Smith, P.E., LEED AP, graduated with Cum Laude honors from the School of Civil Engineering at the University of Dayton, in Dayton, Ohio. He began his professional career in Indianapolis, Indiana, before moving to Northern Virginia in 1998. In 2003, Mr. Smith was hired by Maryland-based Loiederman Soltesz Associates, Inc. to open that company’s first Northern Virginia office. Mr. Smith founded SMITH Engineering in October 2008 and continues his vision of excellence with steady and strategic growth of the firm.

Blake Smith is licensed in Virginia, Maryland and Washington, D.C. He is an active member of the Northern Virginia Building Industry Association (NVBIA) and has contributed to the work of NVBIA’s Fairfax, Loudoun and Prince William councils. Mr. Smith is also a member of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB).

From 2008 to 2011, Mr. Smith served on the Executive Board of Directors of the Engineers and Surveyors Institute (ESI), serving as Chairman in 2010. He remains active as a Designated Plans Examiner (DPE) in Fairfax and Loudoun Counties, and continues to sit on the ESI Board of Directors.

Throughout his career, Mr. Smith has participated on many local industry committees, including the Board-appointed Facilities Standards Manual (FSM) Committee in Loudoun County.

Anthony F. Venafro holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from James Madison University where he graduated with Cum Laude honors. He entered the land development industry in 2005 as a Designer with Loiederman Soltesz Associates, Inc.  There, Mr. Venafro quickly mastered his design skills and was promoted to Senior Designer in 2006, followed by Assistant Project Manager and Lead Technological Group Representative in 2007.  He joined SMITH Engineering at its inception in October 2008 as a Project Manager. 

Anthony Venafro is a participating member of the Northern Virginia Building Industry Association (NVBIA) and the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). He has served on the Fairfax Committee of the Engineers and Surveyors Institute (ESI).

In his role as Director of Engineering at SMITH Engineering, Mr. Venafro manages the Engineering Department and further streamlines the in-house engineering operations.  Mr. Venafro also continues to oversee the project management efforts at SMITH Engineering and contributes to the expansion of marketing efforts.
